Should We Go To School Or Not?

First, we saw Greta alone, with a poster she made herself. Her hair was braided, her eyebrows knitted as if showing her determination. The only difference from his grandmothers who have been protecting the planet for a thousand years is that she is a good Twitter user. She said she wouldn't go to school while our home planet was burning. On Friday, she skipped school, created awareness for the climate crisis, organized her peers, called out to policy makers and restored our faith. Atlas Sarrafoğlu and friends responded Fridays for Future and Greta back from Turkey. Atlas had started carrying the world on his back a thousand years ago, and he invited us to join his movement. On Friday, September 20th, we followed Greta and her friends who skipped school for climate and, we close Ashoka Turkey office for one day to join in the the work of our stakeholders who fight against climate and play an active role on it.

Civil Society Development Center (STGM) has organized the fourth of the Civil Voices Festival with the support of The European Union Turkey Delegation between the 20 – 21th of September 2019 at Istanbul Uniq Hall. Civil society was represented at the festival with all the colors and diversity by 300 activists from almost every city in Turkey representing 215 civil society organizations and with guests attending from Europe. As Civil Pages, we have tried to follow the busy Festival program for 2 days and on this occasion we have talked with the managers of the host organization, with the festival speakers and with the participant NGO representatives about civil society’s today, future and about STGM.

We talked to Itır Erhart, the co-founder of Adım Adım, the movement partner of the organization about Festtogerher Festival which will share some of the ticket revenue among the NGOs that support it. Erhart invites everyone to Festtogether to run together, attend workshops - panels, act with the thought of the goodness of the planet while having fun and have the opportunity to experience many new things.

Aiming to draw attention on the climate crisis with extraordinary acts involving music and art, Yokoluş İsyanı intends to carry out demonstrations suitable for Turkey's atmosphere along with their global climate demonstrations.
