Meşale Tolu: I Really Cannot Feel Happy to Be in Germany
10 Eylül 2018
German citizen Meşale Tolu was taken into custody on 30 April 2017 in her home where she lived with her 2,5 years old son.
She was arrested for being a member of “Marxist Leninist Communist Party” and making propaganda of a terrorist organization. She was imprisoned for 8 months in Bakırköy Women’s Prison and released in December 2017. Her husband Suat Çorlu is also on trial. Their son stayed with them in prison by turns.
After her release, translator and journalist Meşale Tolu returned to Germany. “Today I am free here but hundreds of my colleagues are in prison. I really can’t be happy that I am here.”
Tolu said that she will be attending her trials in Turkey. She replied the question “Aren’t you afraid to be imprisoned again?” as: “I think I am brave. I am not blind to put myself in risk, but I want to attend the trials to rebut the charges.”
