Maside Ocak: In 1997 We Used to Be Taken into Custody as 2 Generations, Now We Are Taken as 3
Maside Ocak is the sister of Hasan Ocak, who was killed when he was in custody. His body was found in a cemetery of the nameless after his disappearance.
Hasan Ocak’s mother was also wanted to be taken into custody in 1997. “I have only one thing to say. Even 700 weeks have passed, I still have hope,” Maside Ocak said.
Maside Ocak was also taken into custody in Saturday Mothers’ 700th week gathering in Galatasaray Square. “In 1997, we used to be taken into custody as 2 generations and now we are taken as 3 generations,” she said.
Maside Ocak shared her reactions regarding the police violence on their protests via her Facebook account:
“In 1997, Ahmet Şık photographed my mother’s being dragged from Galatasaray square. Today the very same scene was photographed by Hayri Tunç Nothing has changed since that day. In 1997, we used to be taken into custody as 2 generations and now we are taken as 3 generations.”
