Turkey Consumed Natural Resources 21 Days Earlier
Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when all of humanity have used more from nature than the planet can renew in the entire year.
In 2018, it fell on August 1. In Turkey, it fell on July 11 which means that Turkey consumed more ecological resources than the world average. August 1 is the earliest date for the earth since 1969. The remainder of the year corresponds to global overshoot and exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.
WWF Turkey’s General Manager Aslı Pasinli said: “We may not feel a difference between August 1 or 2 but the earth is paying for unlimited consumption of natural resources and every individual will affected from it. Climate change, forest fires, untimely and unbalanced rains, drought and floods are caused by exceeding what Earth can regenerate. If we continue living this way, there will be nothing that we can call planet earth. It is high time that we stop consuming so fast and using natural resources sustainably. We can do it altogether and help the humanity to live in a better future.”
