Climate in Turkey: We are Aware of the Fact That Disasters Happen More

How is the weather condition in Turkey? Does the temperature increase?

According to the data from Turkish State Meteorological Service, average temperature in Turkey rises gradually, while average precipitation has an inclination to decrease. Average humidity decreases, while evaporation increases.

In 2017, average temperature in Turkey is increased by 1,5 degrees and occurred as 14,2. This was 13,5 between 1981-2010, so there is a 0.7 degrees of increase in average.

Another commonly argued topic regarding climate change is amount and frequency of precipitation. According to Turkish State Meteorological Service’s data, from 1990 up to now, there is an inclination of decrease in precipitation, too.

What is Turkey’s current status regarding disasters and climate change?

Scientific and public institutions indicate that there is a risk of increase in natural disasters, both as number and effect.

Prof. Mikdat Kadıoğlu says, according to IPCC’s projections with Global Climate Model, Turkey might become affected by a very dry and hot climate by 2030; temperatures may rise 2 degrees in winter and 3 in summer.
