Children Should Always Remain on the Agenda

Death, violence, abuse, disappearance… These are the most common words used in the news involving children. What should be done to prevent it?

Ezgi Koman from Gündem Çocuk Association, which was shut down by a decree law, has an answer:

Ezgi Koman says there is always violence against children where there is inequality and discrimination. It is not easy to reach sufficient information regarding children’s status due to the lack of rights-based data, she adds. “If you don’t have data, you cannot understand the existing situation and make efficient policies,” she continues.

Saying that children can only become an issue if something bad has happened to them, she indicates that they cannot become the main topic of a conversation with their potentials, true interests and needs. This happens due to the unequal attitude of societies and authorities towards children and should be changed, she explains.
