First in Turkey: Kadıköy’s Climate Ambassadors at Work!
Kadıköy Municipality held an event aimed at contributing to Sustainable Energy & Environmental Protection Conference (SEEP). The event was a first in Turkey.
Draft report of Kadıköy Municipality’s “Holistic and Participative Climate Act Project” has been opened to the suggestions of volunteers, academicians, CSOs, and representatives of local/central governments and private sector.
Voluntary participation process was held in three steps: First, Assist. Prof. Barış Gençer Baykan (Vice Chairman of Public Administration Dept of Yeditepe University) and Ayşe Şule Sümer (Director of Environmental Protection and Control) made presentations about the subject.
In the first meeting, as well as giving information on the scientific background of climate change and national/international negotiations, definition of “climate ambassador” was made.
In the second meeting, participants were informed about international examples of carbon emission reduction, Kadıköy’s greenhouse emission rate and about possible solutions.
In the last meeting, by using the World Cafe method, participants recorded their common suggestions to present to SEEP.
