2017’s Human Rights Violation Report: “Axis of human rights has shifted in Turkey.”

Human Rights Foundation has published 2017’s human rights violation report. The report includes many type of violation such as freedom of thought and expression, violence against women, press, prisons, etc.

According to Human Rights Violation report, 33 people faced extrajudicial execution, 656 people were dead in armed conflicts, 408 women and 99 children were killed. 5268 people, including 133 children, were exposed to torture and battery. 12145 people were taken into custody, 528 people were sentenced to 3125 years in prison.

Alevis during the state of emergency

The report includes a section about Alevis. When evaluated in terms of freedom of religion, Alevis were exposed to threats and hate speech. Some highlights from the report are as follows:

-Alevis demands of equal citizenship rights remain unanswered.

-EHRC’s decisions about the cancellation of obligatory religion lessons and the recognition of cemevis as a place of worship were not abided by.

-Alevis, Christians and Jews were exposed to threats and hate speech of radical sunnis and racists.

-Many Alevi and opponent media institutions, including TV 10 and YOL TV, were closed due to state of emergency rules.

-Doors of 13 houses were marked in Cemal Gürsel district in Malatya, where Alevi people reside. Altough the police started investigation, nobody was officially interrogated.

-Seeing a parallel between the incidents in Malatya and the Maraş Massacre, Alevis still expect the perpetrators to be found.

-Unidentified person or persons threw a burning bucket in Habipler Cemevi, during a religious service.
