Munzur River Shall Run Free!

Citizens got together in İstanbul by the call of Dersim Federation of Associations (DEDEF) and Munzur Preservation Board and they called out: "Don't touch Munzur! Munzur shall run free!" Some Alevi institutions, non-governmental organizations and deputies attended the demonstration against hydroelectric power plants which are planned to be built on Munzur Valley.

Hasan Hayri Şanlı made press statement on behalf of DEDEF and Munzur Preservation Board and he said: “Dersim has been facing the most intense attacks of the last years. The government and the capital gain strength from the conditions of emergency rule and want to confiscate our nature, life spaces with a decree for urgent expropriation to build Konaktepe Dam and hydroelectric power plants. Our lands are presented on a golden plate to the capital owners under the cover of renting. We, as people of Dersim, warn once more the owners and implementers of those inconsiderate projects. We will not let your projects destroy our living spaces. We stand against your savage attacks to our waters, rivers and valleys. We stand together with the labourers, the poor, the women, the youth and the environmentalists to defend life.”
