Female Cyclists Attended Facebook’s Event in London

Facebook brought community leaders together via Communities Summit Europe held in London. 150 groups across Europe joined the event. There were also representatives from Turkey. Female Cyclists Initiative was among the most prominent participants from Turkey.

Along with fake news, fake accounts, censorship and polarization; Facebook has also been dealing with criticisms about causing social media addiction since the beginning of 2017. In order to fight off, Facebook has been trying to show the positive sides of social media usage and regards community groups as one of the best contributions to the society.

From this point of view, Facebook holds an event called “Communities Summit”. It was held in Chicago for the first time. This year, the event took place on 8-9 February in London and brought community leaders across Europe together.

7 communities from Turkey participated in the event. Female Cyclists Initiative was chosen as one of the most important communities. Facebook’s director of product partnerships Ima Archibong invited Seçil Öznur Yakan and Zeynep Araboğlu to talk about their stories, interactions on social media and their events.
