56 women from women’s organizations gathered in a meeting called “the Present, Future and Changing of Women’s Movement” and evaluated women’s agenda both in Turkey and in the World.
The meeting was held by Flying Groom Foundation in 29-30th January, Cappadocia.
Güner: “It is time to act.”
Flying Broom Foundation’s chairwoman of the executive board Halime Güner highlighted the importance of women’s organizations’ getting together and sharing problems and experiences.
“Today, we witness the threat of losing the rights and achievements, which women all around the world struggled hard for a long time to gain. Although this threat has different intensities depending on the society and the country, male domination looking for a ‘revenge’ is the common ground. We can observe this fact more clearly in our country. We are facing a very strong society struggling to make the male domination immovable.
Feminism and women’s rights activists, of course, have something to say against this gloomy atmosphere. Feminists made themselves heard by their bravest actions in the most unexpected times and they are the pioneers of protests which changed the definition, context and the form of resistance. It is time for feminists to generate and expand new discourses that are adaptable to changing conditions. We saw the encouraging examples of that both in Turkey and the World in 2017.
So, if 2018 is a year of renewal and practicing the new discourses, we want to start doing it together. We want to add the questions of “how to do, where to start?” to the question of “what to do?”
