According to Umut Foundation’s 2017 Map of Violence and Murder, which was prepared in accordance with the national and local pressrecords, firearm incidents increased by 61% compared to the last three years. Umut Foundation indicated that the map was prepared only from media exposure and official records could be even higher.

Map of Violence and Murder shows the terrifying side of individual armament in Turkey. According to the map, industrialized and the most crowded Marmara Region has the highest crime rate. A total of 837 armed crimes showed up in the news and Istanbul has the highest crime rate with 351 firearm incidents. There is 43% increase compared to last year.

In order to prevent armament, Umut Foundation remarks the need for educational models which are based on thorough researches about social values, cultural elements and the causes for armament; which would create a change in attitude, behaviour and language and which have an aim for establishing human rights and peace culture among the society.
